The World Beneath the Rings: The First Wound

Humanity came looking for resources. They found civilizations.

Welcome to the World Beneath the Rings

H. M. Higgins is a speculative fiction author whose stories explore identity, survival, stewardship, and the consequences of humanity's choices. Drawing on the natural world, regenerative agriculture, complex ecosystems, and mythology, Higgins builds worlds where alien species are more than monsters or scenery — they have cultures, histories, families, and reasons to fight for their future.

Away from writing, Higgins spends much of his time gardening, developing sustainable growing systems, and finding new ways to connect stewardship of the land with the responsibility we carry toward future generations.

A five-book science-fantasy saga following humanity's arrival on a world bound to the Sources — and the Eldruhn who have lived in connection with them for generations.

ROOTED IN NATUREWhere Story Meets Soil

Higgins draws on regenerative agriculture, living soil, and complex ecosystems to build alien cultures that feel lived-in — not invented for spectacle or shock value.

More Roots Than Pages

More Roots Than Pages

H. M. Higgins writes speculative fiction that treats alien worlds like living ecosystems — not backdrops. His debut, The World Beneath the Rings: The First Wound, grew out of a lifelong fascination with regenerative agriculture, living soil, and the quiet relationships that hold a landscape together. When he's not building the world beneath the rings, you'll usually find him in his own garden, hands in the dirt, tending the smaller ecosystem he's building above them.
